The Lion King

A spectacular show for all the family, 2019 sees the Lion King celebrate its 20th year at the Lyceum Theatre in London. The musical has run for over 7.500 performances and is the top grossing stage performance in the world. The now classic tale of the young lion, Simba, and his adventures across the plains of Africa is brought to life through a mixture of fantastic acting, stunning puppetry, and breath-taking scenery. The show is recommended for ages 6 and up, making it the perfect choice for a school holiday treat.

Hamilton

Making its way over from Broadway and proving to be just as popular in the UK as it is in the USA, Hamilton is a must-see musical which has won numerous prestigious awards. Hamilton tells the story of the forgotten American Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton, and his journey of poverty to power during the American War of Independence. Although the storyline may be historical, the story is brought to life primarily through hip-hop, R&B, pop and soul, making for an altogether different approach. Catch the multi-award-winning show at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

Fairly new by West End standards, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie came to the Apollo Theatre at the end of 2017. It rapidly gained popularity and has since won 3 WhatsOnStage Awards and has been nominated for 5 Olivier Awards. The story centres on 16-year-old Jamie who doesn’t quite fit in with those around him and overcomes prejudice and bullying to step into the spotlight. The musical is based on a real-life story and is a real feel good show which will have you laughing and feeling fabulous. Until the end of June, the show will star Bianca Del Rio (Ru Paul’s Drag Race) and Faye Tozer (from the band Steps).

Aladdin

Another Disney classic has been brought to life for the stage and is proving to be just as popular as the long-standing Lion King. Aladdin tells the tale of a loveable street rogue who falls for a princess and must overcome his troubles with the help of a magic lamp and genie. Based on the 1992 hit animated movie, the show features all the original songs as well as 7 new tunes to sing along to. The musical is currently housed at the Prince Edward Theatre but will be closing in late August so see it this summer before it’s too late!
